GemSet Jewellery Competition 2010
The Annual Jewellery Competition
Each year, the Scottish Gemmological
Association offers a jewellery competition specifically intended to promote the
use of gem materials in the work of the students in the jewellery departments of
the Scottish Art Schools and Further Education Colleges.
The aim of the competition is to design
and manufacture an item of wearable gem-set jewellery.
Criteria for Judging
Entries are judged by a panel of
jewellery professionals, who use the following criteria in equal measure:

aesthetic design and originality; |
 |
quality of construction and finish; |
 |
professional application of stone setting techniques. |
Students are asked to bear in mind that
the piece should emphasize the attributes of the gemstone(s).
The 2010 Competition
The 2010 competition was judged on the 29th of March at North
Glasgow College and it is with great pleasure that the SGA announce the following results:
First Prize -
Filipa Oliveira - Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, University of Dundee
Second Prize -
Fiona Barr - North Glasgow College
Third Prize -
Miya Hayes - Edinburgh College of Art
Highly Commended - Justyna Klapacz -
North Glasgow College
Martine Mattys - North Glasgow College
Rebecca Vigers - Edinburgh College of Art
The prizes were presented to the winners at the SGA Annual
Conference in Perth on Sunday the 2nd of May.
