News (update on 21st October 2009)
Membership News
We now have about 70 members all signed up and we're now
sending out membership cards and the programme for the next 6 months,
culminating in our conference in May
We hope to build a members area of the website shortly.
If you haven't signed up yet then please fill in the form and
send it to us.
Our Committee met on Sunday the 11th October and
approved new applications for membership. All new members will be informed by
letter and will receive Membership and Programme cards
Our next Committee meeting will take place on Friday the 13th
November.
Campbell Bridges
We were all shocked and and saddened by the violent death of
Campbell Bridges in Kenya on August 11th.
Campbell was a dynamic geologist and gemmologist famous for
his ruby and tsavorite mines and for bringing tanzanite into the gemstone world.
Campbell was a warm and friendly man who shared his incredible
enthusiasm with everyone. We had the privilege of hearing him speak at one of
the Branch evenings in Edinburgh.
He will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with his family
at this terrible time.

Membership
Membership of the SGA is open to anyone who has a genuine
interest in Gemmology.
We are keen to welcome anyone to our events and to encourage
them to join the SGA. For safety reasons, we need to restrict our events to
members and guests of members only. The events are therefore not open to members
of the public.
Membership forms are now available and can be downloaded by

Events
The Autumn programme of evening lectures and
demonstrations has begun and you can see the programme under
Events opposite.
We've completed the schedule for Spring 2010 too and you can
see this under Events too
Conference 2010
We are also very pleased to have completed the Programme for
our Annual Conference in 2010 in Perth and you can read about the provisional
programme under Conference 2010.
Our principal speaker is Dr. Dietmar Schwarz from the Gubelin
Laboratory in Switzerland. Dr. Schwarz is a noted world expert in
gemmology and will speak on Emeralds and Minerals and Gem Mines of the World.
